 Buritaca River TREK 

Sacred Energy Portal for the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta indigenous people. Area where the priority is to connect with Mother Earth. 
If you want to be part of a short hike but full of challenges and adventure. This trek is for you.
 
 2 days and 1 night. 
15 kilometers walking. 

4 hours of trekking per day. 

A better alternative if you don't want to do the Lost City and want to trek through the tropical rainforest in Colombia.

Hike through dense and challenging jungle surrounding the majestic Buritaca River.

 Take the narrow trail through the humid tropical forest of the lower part of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. 

Our highest point will be 700 meters above sea level and we will descend to the immense Buritaca River to enjoy its beautiful waterfalls and deep swimming holes. 

A total of 13 kilometers to go. Sighting of toucans and other birds of the region. Ancient trees and virgin vegetation perfect to contemplate and appreciate.
A hike where the priority is to connect each step of our being with the pure intensity of nature.

Day 2

We wake up to the roar of the local scarecrow monkeys.
 
  • local breakfast of the region.

  •  Departure time for our hike 7:30 am. 

  •  2 hours or 2 and a half hours slow pace walk.

  • Waterfalls and rivers to cross. 

  • Narrow path. Under dense vegetation and covered by huge trees. Most of the time with spectacular views of the great Buritaca River.

  • 10:00 in the morning we arrive at Freddy's campsite. Where we will receive some fruit and time to rest for a while. 

  • 10:30 in the morning we walk from Freddy to the last camp. RIVER STATION.

  • Short walk. Crossing the river a couple of times. 45- minutes 1 hour.

  • The last part of our adventure is the last 10 minutes of steep uphill and 10 minutes of downhill with a spectacular view.
  • 11:30 -1200 we arrive at the Rio station camp. 

  • - time to enjoy the river. With waterfall included. 

     

  • 12:30 lunch

  • After lunch we have time to rest and get some sleep if you wish. 

  •  14:00 motorcycle ride to the town of Mamey.

  • Time to take a shower. Rest a little. Make a last farewell toast and take our car again.

  •  Transportation to Santa Marta or back to your hotel.

  • For those going to Santa Marta. We will be back in town between 4:30 -5:30 pm.

Our Adventure Includes

Every single day You will hike through a dense humid forest. Even if the sun is not extremely warm, We will be sweating so much because of the humidity.
The secret to success during this adventure is taking a light backpack with Us.
Here You have some tips about what You will need up there.
  • Small /medium size backpack.

  • Light clothes to walk.

  • Long sleeves shirt, and long pants for the nights.

  • Comfortable shoes to walk (hiking boots / running shoes.

  • Flip flops, small towel, swimsuit.

  • Toiletries.

  • Insect repellent, sunscreen.

  • A hat.

  • Cash to buy souvenirs from the indigenous and the farmers.

  • Cash for alcohol or cold drinks at the camps.

  • Tips for the guides.

Meals, fruits, and snacks.

Accommodation on beds or hammocks.

Contribution to the Kogui and Wiwa indigenous communities.

Contribution to the peasant community that makes this adventure possible.

Transportation back to your hotel

Day 1

We will pick you up between 6:30 and 7:00 Am at your hotel in  Santa Marta. Minca. Tayrona or Palomino. 

  • 2 hours drive to the village 

  • 9:00 am breakfast in machete. 

  • After breakfast. 20 minutes motorbike ride from 150 meters above sea level to the starting point of the hike, 700 meters above sea level. 

  • 1 hour and 20 minutes first ride to La Negra camp. 

The first part of the hike is very quiet and is on the highest part of the mountain. Spectacular views and very Nice weather.

  • 11:00 am arrival at La Negra camp.

  • Time to relax a little and enjoy the tranquility of nature. We can swim in the river and rest for the rest of the morning while we wait for our lunch.

  • 11:40 am traditional lunch of the region.

13:00 walk on a narrow path through the tropical rainforest for 1 hour. 

  •  5-8 minute climbs. Descents through rocky terrain. Crossing of waterfalls and river crossings until you reach the Ancestral waterfall.

  • 14:20 arrival at Ancestral waterfall.

  • Time to swim and enjoy this spectacular waterfall along with some snacks and fruits from the region. 

  • 16:30 we start our hike back to our camp where we will spend the night.

  • 1 hour and 30 minutes walk.

  • 18:30-19:00 Traditional dinner of the region. 

  • 20:00 small talk about tourism in the region with campfire.
